Officers were dispatched to a home in the 2700 block of Burnaby Drive on the Southeast Side at approximately 12:53 a.m. after a neighbor reported seeing someone inside the residence, which apparently is up for sale and is supposed to be vacant, Division of Police spokesman Sgt. James Fuqua said.
Officers arrived and, after confirming that no one should be inside, entered the home and found the woman in a room behind a closed door, Fuqua said.
The officers tried to get the woman to leave but she did not comply and displayed a firearm to the officers.
One officer discharged their weapon, striking the suspect, Fuqua said.
The woman, whose name was not released, was taken into custody and transported to Grant Medical Center in stable condition.
No officers were injured.
The shooting remains under investigation.
