COLUMBUS – A woman stabbed by her boyfriend on the Southeast Side and a man shot to death outside a Northeast Side apartment building Wednesday became the 38th and 39th homicide victims of the year in Columbus.
UPDATE May 11 5:57 a.m.: The victim in the Parsons Ave. homicide has been identified as Erika Daniels.
Christopher Martin, 27, has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of Erika Daniels inside his apartment at approximately 6:04 p.m., according to Sgt. Stanley Latta, of the Columbus police Homicide Unit.
Officers called to an apartment in the 1000 block of Parsons Avenue on a report that a woman was being assaulted by a male found Daniels, 30, who was taken to Grant Medical Center where she died less than an hour later.
Martin and Daniels were in a relationship, Latta said.
At approximately 10:48 p.m., officers were called to the area of an apartment complex on Yorkhull Lane on a report of gunshots and found Muhammed Dukureh Tunkara lying on the sidewalk in front of one of the buildings suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, said Sgt. Jeff Strayer.
Tunkara, 41, died later at Grant Medical Center, Strayer said.
There were no known motives or suspects early Thursday.
The investigation continues.
