Woman’s body found at Alum Creek State Park possible homicide

DELAWARE — A Columbus woman’s body was found in a shallow grave in an Alum Creek State Park and authorities are investigating the discovery as a possible homicide.

UPDATE: This article has been updated to include the name of the victim and other information released by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman has been identified as Brittany McDowell, 28.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office says an officer with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources discovered a shallow grave while on foot patrol near the 6400 block of State Route 37 at approximately 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The sheriff’s office is calling it a possible homicide because of injuries observed on the body. The coroner’s office will determine the cause of death.

Columbus police and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are assisting. The park remains open to the public.
