COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – The Ohio State University women’s hockey coach has resigned under threat of firing after an investigation concluded he violated the university’s sexual harassment policy by repeatedly making inappropriate comments to players.
The investigation against ex-coach Nate Handrahan also found he violated the university’s policy against whistleblower retaliation by intimidating and chastising team members after complaints were raised.
The investigation into Handrahan began in November after an anonymous complaint accused him of sexual harassment. Documents show Handrahan resigned Monday, the same day the university informed him he would be fired the next day.
Handrahan did not immediately return a message seeking comment. A report into the coach’s conduct says he told investigators his comments were taken out of context but he could not explain to them how or why.
