COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two men made the mistake of bringing a car to a gunfight on the West Side late Sunday night and ended up in jail.
James Duncan (above right )and William Evans (left) were driving in the area of W. Mound Street and Whitethorne Avenue just before 10:15 p.m. when they spotted the victim walking along the street and began yelling at him, police said.
Detectives say Evans, 44, got out of the 1999 Buick four-door and approached the 44-year-old victim. Duncan, 27, drove the car through the grass in an attempt to run the man down, but police say the would-be victim pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired a shot, hitting the windshield.
Evans got back in the car and the two drove off, eastbound from the scene. The two men and their car were located a short time later, following an unrelated accident, police said.
Both have been charged with felonious assault.
Detectives say the victim’s identity is being withheld because he fears for his safety and the that of his family.
