Officers called to the Reserve at Parkwick apartment complex near I-270 and Georgesville Road shortly before midnight found Jared Bentley lying in the parking lot in the area of Bay Club Circle, suffering from a gunshot wound, said Sgt. Jeff Strayer of the Homicide Unit.

After the officers located the scene where Bentley, 24, had been shot, they were directed to another part of the complex where Bentley was found and pronounced dead by a Franklin Township medic.

Strayer says detectives found that Bentley had arrived at the scene in a vehicle and got involved in an argument between two small groups when someone pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at the Bentley.

Bentley tried to drive away from the area after being wounded but only made it a few hundred yards before he got out of the vehicle and collapsed.

Investigators are still questioning witnesses but no one had been charged as of Tuesday morning, Strayer said.

This is the 104th homicide of the year in Columbus.
