NEW YORK – The New York Yankees are enjoying their best 15-game stretch since the 1998 club won a team-record 114 games.
The Yanks won for the 14th time in their last 15 games by putting together a four-run fifth on just one hit in a 5-2 victory over the Indians.
Francisco Lindor put Cleveland ahead with a fifth-inning blast, but he also committed a double error that allowed a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Bombers also scored in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly.
Indians starter and loser Trevor Bauer retired his first 14 batters before issuing three walks in the fifth.
Sonny Gray allowed two runs and four hits in six innings to win for the first time in a month.
The Yanks have won eight straight at home and have taken their last five games against division leaders.
