COLUMBUS – Buckeye All-American Chase Young was named Thursday as the Big Ten Conference’s Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year.
The junior defensive end was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and claimed eight major individual awards this year, including Ohio State’s Male Athlete of the Year, the Chuck Bednarik and Bronko Nagurski Awards as the nation’s most outstanding defensive player, Big Ten MVP, Defensive Linemen of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
Young led the nation in quarterback sacks with 16.5, a single-season Ohio State record, and sacks per game with 1.38 while finishing second in tackles-for-loss and TFLs per game.
He was the second overall pick in the NFL draft by the Washington Redskins.
