COLUMBUS, Ohio – Despite cool weather, a record number of people splashed through Zoombezi Bay this summer.
Attendance for 22.7-acre water park adjacent to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium was 416,373, topping the previous high-water mark of 408, 711 set in 2008, director of communications Jennifer Wilson said.
Group sales and promotions helped drive the increase, as did the new Baboon Lagoon attraction, a play structure for younger visitors that features 10 water slides, water basketball, a rope course, thousand-gallon tipping bucket and – important during a cool summer – heated water, said vice president John Gannon
The highest attendance recorded for Wyandot Lake, the park Zoombezi Bay replaced in 2008, was 406,000 in 1998, Wilson said.
The biggest month was June with a total of 137,100 visitors, about 13,000 more than the previous one-month record of 123,949 in 2012.
