2-week boil advisory after London water outage

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The water is back on, but the folks in London have a couple of weeks of inconvenience ahead of them after a major failure of the city’s water system.

Repairs to a 10-inch water main at the water-pumping plant were complete Wednesday night after all 9,800 customers went without running water all day.

Residents and businesses will be forced to boil their cooking and drinking water for the next two weeks as a precaution against bacterial contamination, according to a press release from Safety-Service Director Stephen Hume.

Hume says residents will also need to conserve water for two weeks, curtailing activities like washing cars, watering lawns or filling swimming pools.

The city’s water tank lost a great deal of its volume during the break and it will take a while to restore the supply, City Council President John Dixon said.

Residents are asked to boil their water for three minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth or making coffee or ice, Hume said.
