$50K will help make Licking County roads safer

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Licking County authorities have received grant money from the state to reduce the number of fatal accidents.

The Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Ohio Traffic Safety Office awarded $50,000 in federal traffic safety funding to the Licking County Health Department for the 2014 federal fiscal year, Health Commissioner Joe Ebel, announced Monday.

The funds were awarded to projects that were judged to have the greatest potential impact on reducing fatal crashes or significantly improving safety systems.

Ebel says there have been 59 traffic fatalities in Licking County over the three-year period of 2010-12. The Licking County Health Department will be promoting traffic safety through education and awareness events, he said.
