A gas price break…but for how long?

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Drivers are seeing gas prices fall as they head off to work today.

The AAA reports retail gas prices in Columbus this morning are bucking the national trend, falling while those around the rest of the country are on the rise.

In a daily survey by the auto club, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express shows the average price at the pump in Columbus is 15 cents lower than a week ago while the average national prices rose 12 cents.

At $3.51 a gallon, the price is 16 cents below the national average and 5 cents cheaper than the statewide average.

AAA says drivers are experiencing “sticker shock” as increased summer demand, unrest in Egypt and production disruptions in the U.S. and other countries push up the price of crude oil and gasoline.

The national average price for regular unleaded gasoline was $3.67 a gallon on Friday and motorists are bracing for further increases in prices this summer.

The association says retail gas prices are likely to rise more in the coming weeks and unscheduled refinery shutdowns or hurricanes on the U.S. Gulf Coast could also add to price increases.
