COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is getting some new tools to combat vehicle theft: Four-wheeled decoys.
Nationwide Insurance is donating four “bait vehicles” to the patrol, which will be used to tempt car thieves and track them.
Nationwide sponsors the “bait vehicle project,” which the patrol says has been successful in other states.
The patrol will place the bait vehicles in areas experiencing vehicle theft and can monitor in real-time, from a remote location, when and where the car thief has taken the bait.
The program is carried out in coordination with local law enforcement agencies.
