Blue Angel has wings at New Albany Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kent Farrington bested nine riders in a jump-off to claim the Authentic Cup at the 16th annual New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix Sunday.

The finish proved to be a nail biter as 31 horse and rider combinations vied for the $125,000 purse and the cup on the John G. McCoy Show Field.

Farrington of Wellington, Fla. won the event aboard Blue Angel, an 11-year-old AES Mare, owned by Robin Parsky of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

Named by the North American Riders Group as the No. 1 Specialty Equestrian Event in 2012, The Classic drew more than 20,000 people and raised over $1.7 million to support the work of The Center for Family Safety and Healing, an organization supporting family violence initiatives founded by Abigail Wexner, the host of the Classic.

The New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix and Family Day presented by JPMorgan Chase & Co. is the primary fundraiser for the center, the product of a recent merger between The Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence and The Center for Child and Family Advocacy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
