COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes’ places in the major college football polls remained unchanged, as did those of most of the top-ranked teams.
With most of the top teams merely tuning up, there was little movement in the Associated Press or “USA Today” college football polls this week, with Alabama and Oregon retaining the top two spots.
Ohio State remained No. 3 in the “USA Today” coaches’ poll and No 4 in the AP media poll after a 76-0 drubbing of Florida A&M in Ohio State’s final game before the start of the Big Ten season.
The Buckeyes were one of four ranked teams to score at least 70 points Saturday. Never before had more than two ranked teams reached 70 points on the same weekend since the rankings went to top 25 in 1989.
Kenny Guiton threw for a school record six touchdowns to go along with 215 yards and an interception as the Buckeyes blasted Florida A&M. Ezekiel Elliott ran for 162 yards and two TDs while Jordan Hall also had two scores. Evan Spencer made four catches for 50 yards and a pair of touchdowns
Coach Urban Meyer glossed over the top players against the Rattlers to immediately move on to Saturday’s Big Ten opener against No. 23 Wisconsin (8:00 p.m./ABC6).
Meyer knows the Badgers are at a different level from anyone Ohio State has seen. After four middling-to-worse opponents, the Buckeyes (4-0) will truly be tested for the first time in primetime and on national television in their Big Ten opener.
The Badgers (3-1, 1-0) tuned up by pounding Purdue 41-10 in their first conference game.
The Crimson Tide beat Colorado State 31-6 on Saturday in a game that was 17-6 heading into the fourth quarter. Oregon did not play.
