Columbus State turns 50

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus State Community College is celebrating its 50th birthday today.

The school began as the Columbus Area Technician School in 1963, when it had just 67 students. After 50 years and two name changes, it now has 25,000 students at two campuses and nine learning centers.

The celebration on the Columbus campus courtyard this morning includes a visit from Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor John Carey, a flash mob performance and a cake created by a pastry chef who teaches at the school.

The school is inviting students to celebrate by signing a banner as a pledge to complete their degrees. There will also be live music and student talent performances and a 50th Anniversary Cupcake Competition.
