COLUMBUS – In hopes of improving the traffic flow through the roundabout at the intersection of SR 161 and Riverside Drive, and decrease the frequency of accidents there, the City of Dublin is making some changes that require the closure of the interchange all weekend.
The roundabout is scheduled to be closed from 8:00 p.m. Friday until 5:00 a.m. Monday, said Lindsay Weisenauer, the city’s public affairs officer.

The project is intended to “better accommodate driver behavior and traffic patterns,” specifically, requiring changes to the northbound lane assignments, she said (see below).

The new northbound configuration (above) will include the following:
Left lane – left turn or straight thru
Center lane – Straight only
Right turn only
After months of study, Weisenauer says the city’s Engineering Division and Police Department decided that driver behavior and patterns have been different than predicted, particularly in the northbound direction and intend the new lane configuration on northbound Riverside Drive to better distribute traffic flow.
Along with the lane assignment changes, Weisenauer says there will also be improved pavement markings and signage but also reminds motorists to slow down and yield to all lanes of traffic before entering the roundabout.
Should weather prohibit the work from being completed, the city plans to postpone the closure until the following weekend, Oct. 26-29, Weisenauer said.
