Freeway worker killed by dump truck

COLUMBUS, Ohio – An investigation is underway into the death of a construction worker on the Southwest Side Tuesday morning.

Gary Henry, 57, was killed when he was struck by a dump truck near the I-270 westbound ramp to Georgesville Road, Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott said.

Henry, an employee of Shelly and Sands and a native of Dennison, working behind the concrete barrier at the construction site when the dump truck backed over him, according to Scott and Ohio Department of Transportation officials.

Investigators don’t suspect drugs or alcohol as factors.

The investigation closed down the ramp for several hours Tuesday.
