COLUMBUS, Ohio – Have you seen this object?
Dublin police are asking for help in locating a golf ball sculpture that was stolen from where it had been placed on display.
The enlarged ball with the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance logo painted on it and the ball’s stand were reported missing on Oct. 7 from the corner of Dublin Road and Memorial Drive, city officials said.
Memorial Tournament officials say no charges will be filed if the ball is returned undamaged by midnight on Oct. 12.
The sculpture is estimated to be worth $2,500, making its theft a felony.
The ball is described as more than five feet tall, three feet wide and weighing about 200 pounds.
The Memorial Tournament ball was part of a temporary public art exhibit sponsored by the city of Dublin in honor of The Presidents Cup and the Memorial Tournament.
The exhibit, titled “18 Drives Through Dublin,” started with the sale of 18 enlarged golf balls and stands at $1,500 apiece to sponsors who paid artists to paint the balls, which will remain on exhibit until June 2014.
The exhibit was inspired by Cleveland’s Year of the Pig, Chicago’s Cows on Parade art exhibition and OSU’s Brutus on Parade.
