COLUMBUS, Ohio – Heavy rainfall is causing urban flooding in central Ohio.
The area was under a Flash Flood Warning until 12:45 p.m. and a Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 8:00 p.m. Monday.
The National Weather Service reported between 0.75 inches and 1.5 inches of rain fell from Grove City to north of Delaware between 9:00 and 10:30 a.m., some of in a little as 15 minutes. The weather service reported 1.25″ of rain fell in about 30 minutes at Port Columbus International Airport and 1.56″ in one hour near Grove City.
The heavy rain caused street flooding in the OSU area and the North Side, according to Columbus and Ohio State University Police:
Columbus police reported cars were driving on sidewalks at Kenny Road and Woody Hayes Drive due to 3 feet of water on the roadway. Cars were reported stranded at Cleveland Avenue and Innis Road.
OSU Police reported that Cannon Drive was closed between Woody Hayes and Herrick due to high water. More high water was reported at High Street and 12th, 13th and 15th Avenues and at Milikin and 17th Avenue.
Union County Engineer Deptartment workers have closed several roads due to high water.
