COLUMBUS, Ohio – Among the 22 central Ohio school districts that received “Excellent with Distinction” ratings in the latest state report cards, the folks in Hilliard may be holding their heads a little higher.
The district was ranked No. 1 in the state on the “Value Added” component, which measures students’ academic growth, according to the data from the Ohio Department of Education.
“While we are excited to celebrate this milestone, we also understand that Hilliard City Schools is about more than a report card. We provide great educational and extracurricular opportunities, innovative lessons and 21st century skills which our students need for tomorrow’s workforce,” Superintendent Dale McVey wrote in an e-mail to parents.
Hilliard has earned the “Excellence with Distinction” rating for five consecutive years.
The man who will be expected to maintain the district’s level of accomplishment is John Marschhausen, currently superintendent of the Loveland City Schools.
He will officially be hired to replace McVey during a special Board of Education meeting on Monday.
Other central Ohio districts which scored high on the Value Added component were Hamilton Local (9th), South Western City (12th), Dublin (18th), Upper Arlington (26th) and Lancaster (36th).
The Ohio Department of Education released the ratings yesterday, after delays to investigate student data-rigging in Columbus and other districts.
The Columbus schools are in “continuous improvement,” but the ratings are unofficial because of the ongoing record-keeping probe.
