Home sales set record

COLUMBUS, Ohio – July of 2013 was the best one on record for home sales in central Ohio, which regained pre-recession levels, at least for a while.

The 2,825 sales were the highest on record for the month of July and third highest of any month on record, just slightly behind the boom months August, 2005, and June, 2006, according to data released today by the Columbus Board of Realtors.

Furthermore, year-to-date sales are the highest for the first seven months of any year on record and more than 3,500 homes put in contract last month indicate the trend was not slowing down.

“Pent up demand is fueling the country and Central Ohio is no exception. Prior to this year, the highest number of home sales we’ve seen in Central Ohio seven months into the year, was in 2005 during the height of the housing boom,” said board president Chris Pedon.

The median sale price of a home is $145,000 – up 4.4 percent from a year ago.

US sales of previously occupied homes jump 6.5 pct. to 5.39 million in July, most in 3½ years.
