Officers responding to a call of a body found near the west shore of the Big Walnut Creek, just east of Groves Road, at 3:58 p.m. found the decomposed remains of a deceased person whose identity, age and gender remain a mystery, Homicide Unit Sgt. Stanley Latta said.

The Ohio State University Department of Anthropology, Forensic Anthropology Case Team and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office assisted with recovery of the remains.

The sex, race, age and identity of the decedent are undetermined at this time and Latta says the cause of death, including whether it was the result of a criminal act, remain pending until an examination by the Coroner’s Office is completed.

Any person with information related to this incident is requested to contact the Columbus Division of Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730.
