COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Columbus man has made national headlines with his YouTube confession to killing a man in a drunk-driving accident.
In the 3 ½-minuute video, Matthew Cordle, 22, says he “killed a man” on June 22 and is willing to take “full responsibility” for the wrong-way car crash that stemmed from a night of heavy drinking.
The video was recorded Tuesday and posted on YouTube and another website. Authorities say they saw it Wednesday.
Cordle says he “made a mistake” when he decided to drive his truck home after “drinking heavily” and hit the car of Vincent Canzani, 61, of Gahanna on I-670.
Franklin County prosecutor Ron O’Brien says Cordle was a suspect in the crash but hasn’t been charged. O’Brien says he’ll ask a grand jury to indict Cordle for aggravated vehicular homicide.
Cordle says he’s aware his confession will lead to charges and that he plans to plead guilty.
Cordle’s attorney says the video “is a strong testament” to his character.
