COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus detectives think the same man may have held up the same German Village bank branch twice within three days.
They say the man who walked into the Chase Bank branch at 833 S. High Street Monday morning just before 10:00 a.m. and demanded cash at gunpoint is the same one who robbed the bank Saturday morning at almost the same time, down to the minute, but walked away empty-handed.
The man is described as black, speaking with an African accent, 40 to 50 years old, 6’3” tall with a medium build, a dark complexion, possibly bald, and wearing a straw hat and long tan trench coat.
At approximately 9:50 a.m. Saturday, a man wearing a long tan coat, blue dress shirt, khaki pants, a straw hat and thick framed glasses, handed what appeared to be a check to a teller who found it to be a holdup note, police said.
When the clerk turned around and walked away, detectives say the man left the bank without any cash and was last seen walking westbound through the parking lot.
Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call the Robbery Unit at 614-645-4665.
