Judgment Day for YouTube confessor

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The daughter of a Gahanna man killed by a drunken driver who later confessed the crime in an online video is expected to offer her first in-depth comments about the accident.

Angela Canzani’s appearance was scheduled as part of the sentencing for Matthew Cordle, 22, who faces eight years in prison for the June accident that killed Canzani’s father.

Cordle posted an online video confessing to the crime before he was charged.

The Franklin County Prosecutor has asked Judge David Fais for the maximum, saying Cordle drove despite a history of blackouts after heavy drinking and has shown no remorse despite his confession.

Cordle’s attorneys asked for a sentence below the maximum to send a message about the value of taking responsibility for a tragedy.

Cordle, of Powelll, pleaded guilty last month to aggravated vehicular homicide and driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol in connection with the crash on I-670 in June that killed 61-year-old Vincent Canzani’s death.
