LeBron opens school for at-risk kids

AKRON (AP) — LeBron James got dressed up for the first day of school — at his school.

James opened the I Promise School in his hometown of Akron, a parting gift of sorts before he leaves to play for the Los Angeles Lakers.

James modeled the cutting-edge school after his own childhood and it offers resources to at-risk kids and their parents.

“The most important thing that we can give them is structure and a sense of — they just want someone to fell like, like we care,” he said.

James told a crowd of thousands that although he’ll be playing in LA, Akron will always be home.
