Man held in murder-suicide attempt

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A man will be charged with murder in the stabbing death of a woman in what Columbus police are describing as an attempted murder-suicide.

Jerry Delong, 26, is recovering from apparently self-inflicted stab wounds after the incident in a home near the OSU campus early this morning in which a woman was stabbed to death.

DeLong was kicked out of his home at 2261 Indiana Avenue after a fight with Leslie Manner, but police say he came back less than an hour later and stabbed her to death.

Officers found Delong when they went to the home shortly after 2:00 a.m. Monday in response to a reported disturbance, Homicide Unit detectives said.

The officers also found Manner, 39, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus fire personnel, investigators said.

Delong was arrested and taken to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition but expected to survive, police said.

This is the 21st homicide of 2013 in Columbus.
