Missing golf ball returned

DUBLIN, Ohio – Dublin’s second missing golf ball has been returned, but is in need of repairs.

The ball was discovered late Saturday morning along the 8200 block of Dublin Road, said Jodi Andes City of Dublin senior public information officer.

Memorial Tournament officials had offered a mulligan to whoever was responsible for stealing it, saying no charges would be filed and no questions asked if it was safely returned by Saturday night.

City officials are pleased the ball has been returned by the deadline, but note that the crime has come at a cost; the city will pay to have the ball repaired.

“This public art project was created for Dublin and the world to enjoy. This type of further action will not be tolerated,” Community Relations Director Sandra Puskarcik said.

The ball was found with a foot-long crack and other scratches.

The five-foot-tall, 200-pound ball and its base was discovered missing Monday morning. A second ball was stolen and returned in about 24 hours later in the week.

The ball is one of 18 around the city, displayed to coincide with the Memorial Tournament and the President’s Cup, both held at the Muirfield Village Golf Club. The art work is worth about $2,500, meaning the theft constituted a felony, Andes said.
