COLUMBUS, Ohio – The route between Columbus and Athens and points south is about to get a lot quicker with the opening of the U.S. route 33 bypass around Nelsonville.
Ohio Department of Transportation Director Jerry Wray will be joined by Ohio University President Roderick McDavis for today’s ribbon-cutting opening the $160 million, 8.5 mile roadway.
The bypass was one of the largest transportation projects ever built in southeastern Ohio.
