Ohioans “most profane”

COLUMBUS, Ohio – When it comes to profanity, Ohioans are second to none, darn it.

The Marchex Institute, a telemarketing research firm, ranked the Buckeye State No. 1 after reviewing thousands of customer service calls and found that Ohio callers dropped a vulgarity in one out of every 150 calls.

Ohio was also ranked as the fourth “least courteous” state, because of a general lack of manners on those calls.

In a survey timed to coincide with National Etiquette Week, Marchex’s data and research team examined more than 600,000 phone calls to cable and satellite companies, auto dealerships, pest control centers and other businesses over the past year.

Maryland was the nation’s 2nd most profane state, followed by New Jersey, Louisiana and Illinois.

Washington was the state where the survey found people are least likely to curse. Massachusetts, Arizona, Texas and Virginia were also among the five least profane.

The data also placed Ohioans among the top five “least courteous” states because Ohioans had “a harder time saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you,’ which were keywords scanned for.
