Oil price hike pushes gas prices higher

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Gasoline prices in Columbus have followed those across the country in a post-4th of July jump due to a hike in oil prices.

A daily survey by the AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express says the average retail price of regular gas in Columbus was 111 cents higher this morning than yesterday at $3.49 a gallon. That is a penny cheaper than the national average, which went up two cents.

The rise in prices is being blamed on the price of crude oil, which rose on escalating protests in Egypt and positive economic news, AAA public relations manager Michael Green said.

Oil prices on July 3 settled above $100 per barrel for the first time since May 3, 2012, Green said.
