President’s Cup

DUBLIN, Ohio – Nearly 150,000 spectators are expected to line the fairways at the Muirfield Village Golf Club for the 2013 President’s Cup, which gets underway today and that could create traffic problems in northwestern Franklin County.

Two dozen of the world’s best golfers begin competing today with six fourball matches, beginning at 11:45 a.m.

With fewer parking areas and play going on in a more compressed form than at the Memorial Tournament, Dublin Police are urging guests to plan ahead and give themselves additional travel time.

Unlike at the Memorial, all general parking for the event is at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium (see map).

Shuttles will operate continuously between the golf course and the zoo beginning 30 minutes before gates are scheduled to open until at least an hour after play has concluded.

During the tournament, a team of the best golfers from the U.S. will compete against an international all-star team in a variety of formats.

For the first time since 1996, the opening session is fourballs.

Each golfer plays his own ball throughout the round. A team’s number of strokes for a given hole is the lowest individual number of strokes of that team’s players on that hole. In stroke play, the scores are added normally, and the team with the lower score at the end of the match wins. In match play, each hole is won by the team whose member has the lowest score on that hole, and that team is awarded a point for the hole. If the teams tie, the point is split. Most points wins.

Schedule of future play: Friday – 1:10-2:05 p.m.: Tee times for foursomes competition (6 matches) Saturday – 7:33-8:29 a.m.: Tee times for four-ball competition (5 matches) Saturday – 1:21-2:05 p.m.: Tee times for foursomes competition (5 matches) Sunday: 12:04-2:05 p.m.: Tee times for singles competition (12 matches)

Historic Dublin will have road closures Thursday night as part of Fore!Fest, a street festival that will feature entertainers and food between 5:00 and 10:00 p.m. At 4:00 p.m. will be closed within an area bounded by Bridge Street between Riverside Drive on the east and Corbins Mills Drive on the west, and High Street from Indian Run Drive and Waterford Drive.
