CLEVELAND, Ohio – Northeast Ohio’s wild winter weather swings could hurt the region’s maple syrup production.
The Ohio State University Extension Service says a late start to winter weather and mostly above-average temperatures are causing a sap shortage.
The experts say syrup production in Ohio could fall thousands of gallons short of last year’s total, but should not result in higher prices.
