COLUMBUS, Ohio – The eight-day-old government shutdown is about to have an impact on one central Ohio community.
While thousands of federal government workers in central Ohio are facing furloughs at the end of the week, there’s good news for hundreds of Ohio National Guard troops.
The Defense Finance and Accounting Service and Defense Logistics Agency in Whitehall have enough money to get to Friday. After that, officials of both agencies say they’ll furlough a combined 6,300 workers stationed at Defense Supply Command Columbus.
National Guard troops who were stuck at home because of the federal government shutdown will be back on duty, however. Guard officials say 1,800 mechanics, pilots and administrative staff have been recalled from their furloughs.
They’re considered essential to the readiness and morale of U.S. troops.
The Ohio National Guard’s upcoming drills were canceled because of the shutdown.
A report from the personal finance website WalletHub.com ranks Ohio 32nd among the states that will be most affected by the shutdown.
