State kicks in $30M more for training

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio has begun the second round of a voucher program that provides financial assistance to employers interested in improving their employees’ skills.

Governor John Kasich on Monday announced that the state will make available $30 million to reimburse companies for qualifying costs associated with training their workers.

The Ohio Incumbent Workforce Training Voucher Program reimburses employers up to $4,000 per employee after the worker completes the training. Employers must first pay the full cost of training before they can receive a state voucher. An employer can be reimbursed up to $250,000 per fiscal year.

The first round of the program, which launched in January, drew applications from 450 companies for the $20 million that were available at the time.

The program is available to Ohio companies that have been in operation for at least 12 months and Ohio employees with the permission of their employer. The maximum amount an employer may qualify for in a fiscal year is $250,000.
