COLUMBUS, Ohio – Strong thunderstorms rumbled through central Ohio overnight, knocking out power to thousands of people and causing flooding in northern and eastern Ohio.
American Electric Power and South Central Power reported a total of about 13,000 customers were without electricity early this morning, but power had been restored to all but about 2,000 by 7:00 a.m.
Cleanup efforts are the order of the day across northeast Ohio after two waves of severe thunderstorms.
High winds, lightning and one-inch hail downed trees and power lines across the region, leaving some 60,000 customers without power during the height of the storms.
The state Transportation Department reported high water closed roads near Bakersville in Coshocton County and state Route 16 was narrowed to one lane near Adams Mill in Muskingum County.
Flood warnings were posted because of flooded roadways in Cuyahoga, Lorain and Erie counties in northern Ohio.
