COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Crew fell to English side Wigan Athletic 2-1 on Saturday evening in an international friendly at Crew Stadium.
The reigning FA Cup champion capitalized on second-half goals from James McCarthy and Marc-Antione Fortune, with former Ohio State Buckeye and Sporting Kansas City midfielder Roger Espinoza assisting on McCarthy’s tally in the 46th minute.
Columbus (6-8-5, 23 points) returns to MLS action when the Crew hosts the New England Revolution (6-6-6, 24 points) on Saturday (7:30 p.m. /FOX Sports Ohio).
New England is only one point ahead of the Crew in the race for the 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs .
