Carol Welsh

Supporting an impoverished neighborhood with a food pantry that’s open to anyone in the 43207 zip code, as well as a clothing pantry that’s open to everyone, Native Americans and all south-side residents on a shoestring budget would not be stretching the truth calling Carol Welsh a miracle worker.

Since 1993, Carol has served as the executive director of The Native American Indian Center of Central Ohio. The Native American Indian Center of Central Ohio is a nonprofit intertribal organization founded by Carol’s mother, selma L. Walker, in 1975. It exists to preserve, protect and promote Native American spirituality, culture and philosophy.

In addition to keeping the doors of the food and clothing pantries open, Carol also oversees social services and health screenings for the Native American and entire surrounding community. The list of supportive accomplishments goes on and on: from fundraising dinners, to Native American “sings”, to online auctions. Through it all, Carol continues to do the very best she can to support all of the needy people in her neighborhood.
