Lisa Teal-Webb

Lisa Teal-Webb article:

We all know the famous story of the “wicked Stepmother.”  Lisa Teal-Webb is here to tell you it’s a horrible stereotype and she’s out to extinguish the moniker – and change it to BONUSmom!  And, along with the other 19 Outstanding Women of 2013, let you know that any ordinary woman can overcome obstacles and share with others what she might do that’s extraordinary!

Lisa’s focus, her life, and her priorities all changed when she became a stepmom to Tyler, Noah, and Cole.  It wasn’t easy as there was little communication between Lisa and the boys’ mother.  They were in court for years and a Guardian ad litem was assigned.  People often told her, “You knew what you were getting into.”  She says that, “if any of us would have known “what we were getting into,” we would’ve run and kept running!”  The stress, frustration, and overwhelming feelings of despair that flooded her soul as a stepmom in this contentious situation were horrendous.   The system wasn’t working in her case in the way of what they thought was best for the boys and it was utter chaos.  She admits that she almost didn’t make it through.

She did not realize at the time how involved in the kids’ lives she would become.  She had to find a way to turn the struggles, frustration, raging anger and hopelessness into something positive and move forward by taking baby steps in this journey.  Now, seven years later Lisa and her husband enjoy much more time with the boys, and can you believe that after all that – Lisa is in business with the boys’ biological mom!  They started a business called LISA & LISA JEWELRY and are enjoying much more peaceful times together.  The turning point came when Lisa had to step up or shut the door.  She decided to step up and reach out to their mom when she needed help most of all.  It was admittedly very difficult to do but was a huge step in turning their relationship around.

Lisa is also a moderator of Buckeye Bonus Moms – a stepmom support group that was established to support “steps” in all stages of motherhood – newbies to veterans.  She reassures them that they’re not alone in their journey – that they’re surrounded by loving support and understanding.  She encourages others to make good choices, knowing that each choice has a consequence.

“Being a BONUSmom is learning about strengths you didn’t know you had, dealing with fears that you didn’t know existed, and having patience that you didn’t know you possessed.”   Lisa would like to leave a legacy of kindness, caring, and support for her family, stepmoms, friends, and her three stepsons.  She wants to know that she made a difference in their lives.
