Mary Pugh would like everyone to know that while she is truly honored by this recognition, it belongs to the entire Westerville Caring & Sharing organization. She’d like you to know that each of them is an integral piece of a puzzle that when put together is able to help many, many people. That she is part of an amazing group of people who truly care about their mission and there would not be a Westerville Caring and Sharing without them. Well, Mary
– you’re now a part of a second organization that works the exact same way – Sunny 95’s 20 Outstanding Women.
Mary is married and has seven children. She teaches them to be kind and compassionate, and says she’s blessed to be a stay-at-home mom because it allows her to donate to causes other than her own family.
The moment that best defines Mary’s passion is the day her first child started school. She realized that there were children that didn’t even have the most basic necessities. And now, through Westerville Caring & Sharing, Mary
and co-20 Outstanding Women-honoree Bob- bie Nelson work to alleviate that need for kids in their own neighborhoods. Since 2003 they’ve touched hundreds of worthy families with their wish lists – at Christmas they provide presents along with food baskets, paper products, personal items and gift cards for the families. At back-to-school time they provide backpacks filled with school supplies, gift cards for clothing, and personal hygiene items.
Mary & Bobbie have inspired many community members and school children as young as first grade to sponsor children each year. Mary says it gives her great joy to see such young children giving to others in need. It gives us great joy to recognize Mary in this way.
