A local and regional comedienne, a storyteller, a funny inspirational speaker and singer are just some of the many talents and jobs that Mary Miller does every day. Mary is a breast cancer survivor who believes in the healing power of music and laughter and uses those powers to play guitar and sing with residents at assisted living communities and memory care centers. She loves taking time to visit with residents, getting to know them, and listening to their stories.
Mary is also an author of a book in progress titled “Fill Your Cups.” It will tell the story of what she learned from her breast cancer journey in the first chapter, and then the rest of the book is to encourage, empower, uplift, see the humor in everyday life, get clarity, and set intentions to achieve big dreams and have a closer faith-walk with God.
Mary’s ambition is to raise money to buy breast forms/prosthetics for women with no insurance or who are under-insured. “I want to give women something back that cancer took from them…some curves and something to fill out their clothing better. After eight years of going without anything, recently a high school friend gifted me with a lovely set of forms…they made me feel feminine and very happy. I want to give that to other women.” That is why Mary formed her charity “Fill Your Cups.”
Balancing everything is a work in progress for Mary. She feels she is getting better at creating structure and systems to support all the projects in her life. “I learned long ago that I need to make time for that which is important in my life, and for the life I desire to create. I have learned to give up the idea of doing things perfectly, and embrace the joy of living my life to the fullest being perfectly imperfect.”
The advice that Mary would like to give to others is to “get a vision of the life you wish to create for yourself, write it down, affirm it and keep it in front of you. I am a big believer of using affirmations, and creating vision boards.”
Mary’s ultimate goal is to write inspirational/funny books; motivate, inspire creativity, encourage dreaming big and help heal women by speaking and performing music to groups at churches, retreats, and conferences. Mary also plans to talk to groups of women and raise awareness of the availability of free prosthetics if they are unable to afford them. “I would love to get a sponsorship for Fill Your Cups from a coffee company, I think it would be a great fit for my cause.”
