Nellie Krumlauf

Most of us may spend our entire life searching for our mission, our passion. Nellie Krumlauf knew hers at age 16! And now at the ripe old age of 21 is continuing that mission as a full-time college student perfecting her craft.

Nellie is the President and Founder of Nel- lie’s Catwalk for Kids (NC4K), a local non- profit organization that focuses on support- ing families faced with pediatric cancer, both emotionally and financially, through their annual fashion show and Nellie’s Clubs in high schools around Columbus. The only obstacle ever to hold Nellie back was her age…but has proven that’s just a number… as she continues to soar for her cause.

Nellie’s inspiration to start helping kids and teens with cancer came from her grand- mother who passed away when Nellie was just a little girl. Before her passing, Nellie and her grandma did everything together. They were the best of friends. No mat-

ter where they went Grandma was always dressed to the nines – in all handmade vintage clothing and jewelry. On rainy days Nellie would put on mini fashion shows, making her own catwalk through Grandma’s living room.

Nellie’s grandma passed away from cancer and she still misses her to this day. The last thing grandma ever gave Nellie was a red dress with a cat on it…which will always remind her of the days on the catwalk at Grandma’s house. Years later, going through Grandma’s jewelry, the idea for NC4K was born. Nellie wanted to come up with some- thing fun to benefit a good cause. Through research and determination, Nellie felt compelled to create an outlet that would be fun and also raise a voice for kids and teens with cancer.

Shortly after, Nellie met a little girl named Eden. Eden modeled in Nellie’s very first fashion show
benefit…helping to raise over $3,000 to be donated to Nationwide Children’s Hospital. It was supposed to be a one-time event, but Eden changed everything. She was the star of the show and received a standing ovation while walking the catwalk. After the show, Eden ran and jumped into Nellie’s arms.

Looking into Nellie’s eyes, Eden said, “that was sooooo cool and I can’t wait to do it next year!” Those words were all Nellie needed to hear to know that this was her calling in life. “Eden is now one of our angels,” Nellie says, “but has forever changed me and many others.”
