Wanda Campbell

Her heroes are the people of the streets of Columbus because they don’t blame others for their problems and survive by overcoming insurmountable odds. And that’s why she’s one of our heroes.

Wanda Campbell serves as President of The Better Way, a non-profit organization that provides physical assistance, human resources, and emotional support to people who are homeless or mired in urban poverty…90% of which, in her area of focus, are single moms.

You could say that The Better Way was Wanda’s dream, but that’s not the whole story. The dream was literal. Wanda had a dream in 1986 during a time in her life in which she was seeking direction. The dream showed her sitting on a curb on High Street leading a young drug addict to Christ. What she didn’t know then was how that dream would play out – how she would lead thou- sands to a Better Way.

Through overseeing a ministry center that’s open three days a week, Wanda leads a team of 35 volunteers and countless other helpers in serving over 40,000 hot meals every year. They provide a food pantry, they distribute blankets, sleeping bags, tents, and coats. They serve a Thanksgiving feast to over 3,000. With all of those responsibili- ties, Wanda will still tell you that the main focus of her job is simply to “love on people who need love.”

Wanda is also very proud of her 31-year marriage to Steve. They’ve got one son – Cory, a daughter-in-law Shelley, and two granddaughters. Wanda may think she doesn’t have a “world-changing vision, but if you ask us…this Outstanding Woman is changing our world…for the better, every single day.
