Congratulations to Janet Mattox from Hamilton Intermediate School, who is our Teacher of the Month for February, presented by Brain Balance, Jet’s Pizza, Peace Love & Little Donuts, and Sunny 95. Janet has been the only Cross Category Intervention Specialist for the past five years at Hamilton Intermediate School. Unlike most teachers, who only have to focus on one grade level academics and one subject, Janet has all three grade levels in her room at once plus all subjects! Like she says “each student is different and they need different work”. Janet doesn’t do just the standard work for every child. She hand picks every assignment for every child based on their needs and levels. In addition to the academics, she is a huge advocate for her high special needs students to learn independence so they are able to live and work throughout school and once they graduate. The level of caring Janet shows for her students goes above and beyond what is expected from an educator. She will do whatever it takes to help any student succeed: whether it means learning to communicate with nonverbal students and give them a voice they didn’t have before, giving up her lunch or planning period to help a student who is having a bad day or doing home instruction for kids that are too ill to come to school.
