COLUMBUS, Ohio – A fire in a mobile home in Fairfield County early Tuesday morning killed members of three generations of a family.
The five victims of the fire in Sugar Grove included a 10-month-old boy, his parents and grandparents, Fairfield County Sheriff Dave Phalen said. Two other people escaped the flames.
Phalen identified the victims Thomas Taylor, 54; Pamela Jean Taylor, 43; Patricia Taylor and Dylan Vanord, both 22, and their 10-month-old son Cody Vanord.
Sixty-three-year-old Don Asbell, 63, was treated and released from Fairfield Medical Center and Georganna Jennings, 62, was hospitalized at OSU Medical Center with smoke inhalation and burns.
Officials with the state Fire Marshal’s office and Phalen’s agency are investigating the cause of the fire and reports by neighbors who said they heard an explosion.
County emergency dispatchers received the first 911 call at 04:17 a.m. from a resident who said their neighbor’s home “just blew up” and reported flames coming from the home at 1837 Brushy Fork Road, Phalen said.
When deputies arrived on the scene Phalen says they found the home fully engulfed in flames and helped Asbell and Jennings escape.
