Alston wins Big 10 freshman honors

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Buckeye guard Ameryst Alston has been named the Big Ten freshman of the week.

The Canton native averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in a pair of road losses against Minnesota and Purdue.

Alston scored 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting against the Gophers, also handing out four assists with three rebounds.

She played a school-record 55 minutes in a triple-overtime thriller against the Boilermakers and finished with a career-high 24 points on 10-of-20 from the field and added six rebounds and five assists.

Alston is averaging 12.0 points per game in Big Ten play and leads the team with 49 assists.

The Buckeyes (10-7, 0-4) – who are still looking for their first Big Ten win of the season — are back in action at 7:00 p.m. Thursday against Indiana at Value City Arena.
