R.J. Umberger got Columbus on the board later in the opening period on the power play.
Sergei Borovsky stopped 28 shots as the Blue Jackets ended a three-game losing streak.
Columbus makes the final two stop on its six-game road trip when they play St. Louis tomorrow and Chicago on Sunday.
