Couple, 62, dies in fire

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A house fire near the Fairfield-Licking County line has claimed the lives of an elderly couple.

Milton and Mary Clagg, both 62, were among seven people inside the home at 13050 Shell Beach Road in Thornville when fire broke out at midnight, Fairfield County Sheriff Dave Phalen said.

The other five occupants of the home escaped, Phalen said.

Millersport Fire Department firefighters responded to the alarm and found the bodies of the Claggs inside the house when the fire had been controlled, Phalen said.

State Fire Marshal’s Office investigators and Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined, Phalen said.
