Baby dies after wrong-way crash

COLUMBUS, Ohio – An unborn baby whose mother was involved  in a wrong-way crash on I-670 Thursday morning died shortly after being delivered, plice said.

Sara Vogelmeyer’s baby boy was born alive at OSU Medical Center but was unable to survive the injuries suffered in the crash and was pronounced dead at 8:46 p.m. Thursday.

Vogelmeier, 26 and seven months pregnant, was injured when her vehicle was struck by one driven by Casey Badgley on I-670 near E. 5th Avenue just before 12:45 a.m., Columbus police accident investigators said.

She was in critical condition at OSU Medical Center.

Badgley, 25, was driving the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of 670 near Cassady Avenue when his car struck Vogelmeier’s head-on.

Badgley was pronounced dead just before 3:15 a.m. at Grant Medical Center.

Police believe he was under the influence of alcohol, detectives said.
